My Top 3 Funniest Charles Barkley Moments

Back on June 14th, Charles Barkley made an announcement live on NBA TV that he would be retiring from his 24-year career as a commentator on TNT after the 2024-2025 season.

Personally, I was really bummed out when I heard the news. I have been a huge fan of Chuck and the entire Inside the NBA crew since I first started following basketball as a kid.

Inside the NBA resonates with me because they do such a great job of discussing sports in a hilarious and entertaining manner. While I am a huge fan and have a ton of respect for Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith, and Shaq, my favorite member of the show has always been and always will be Barkley.

I believe Charles Barkley is the funniest former professional athlete to ever transition into sports commentary, and it’s not even close in my book.

That's why I was hyped when it was announced earlier today that Barkley had reversed his retirement statement and confirmed he will remain with TNT until his contract ends in 2032.

"Barkley released this statement earlier today: 'This is the only place for me. I have to say... I've been impressed by the leadership team who is fighting hard and has been aggressive in adding new properties to TNT Sports, which I am very excited about. I'm going to give my all as we keep [fans] entertained for years to come.'"

To celebrate Barkley remaining on TNT for at least the next eight years, I am sharing what I think is the three funniest Charles Barkley moments on TV.

1. Apologizing to the women of San Antonio:

Barkley has had a longtime feud with the “women of San Antonio." It has been a long-running joke on the show. Anytime the city of San Antonio is brought up, Barkley always comments on the weight of the women, which is ironic considering Barkley is far from slender himself. About two years ago, Barkley issued an apology to the women of San Antonio after he discovered what a churro is.

2. “Police presence” at the Rockets vs. Clippers game

On January 15th, 2018, after a game between the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Clippers, several players on the Houston Rockets reportedly tried getting into the Clippers’ locker room to confront Austin Reaves. Security quickly stepped in before the situation escalated, and apparently LAPD was also on the scene. Barkley and Shaq thought the amount of security for the supposed “threat” was ridiculous, and their back and forth banter about it is priceless.

3. Barkley vs. Phoenix Suns

During the 2017-2018 season, Inside the NBA was watching highlights of a game between the Houston Rockets and the Phoenix Suns. At the time, the Suns were the worst teams in the league. As a former player of the Suns, Barkley was quick to criticize the poor state of the roster, and just for the hell of it, he started roasting how bad the team was, from the concessions to the parking. It was such a good bit, TNT reenacted it as a cartoon.
